UPCOMING ACTIVITIES Monday, March 22: Grade BBB at Roslyn vs. Groton. 4th at 5 p.m., 5th at 6 p.m., 6th at 7 p.m. Sunday-Tuesday, March 28-30: State Student Council at Pierre FROM THE GUIDANCE OFFICE 9th, 10th, 11th grade students: Youth Tour all-expense paid trip to Washington, DC, sponsored by Lake Region Electric and Touchstone Energy co-ops, June 11-17. One high school student from LREA's service area will travel to DC along with 1,400 other students from co-ops throughout the US!!!!. Learn about politics, community development and today's social issues. To enter, submit by March 25 to LREA in Webster an essay of 500 words or more on the subject “After 75 years of rural electrification, explain why electric cooperatives are still needed and how they help members in today’s energy market.” Essays must be typed/computed and include a cover sheet which has the title of the essay, entrant's name, parents' names, address, phone number, school, and year in school. Entrants MUST BE a dependent of a LREA member. See Mrs Ohleen if you have questions. Due by May 17 to LREA, Webster: Students currently in grades 9-11 from across South Dakota have an opportunity to apply for the annual Youth Excursion to North Dakota sponsored by South Dakota's electric cooperatives. It will be held July 20-22. During the 3 day trip, students learn about the basics of cooperatives, how the region's' Touchstone Energy Coops work together and career opportunities at cooperatives. Students ride in a deluxe bus, stay in a nice hotel, meals provided, and interact during social activities along with touring the huge power generation facilities that provide electricity to LREA members. Each participant will receive a free t-shirt. NO FEES for students. Students conclude the trip with a riverboat cruise of the Missouri River, a game show quiz contest, and a dance. Take an information/application pamphlet on the guidance bulletin board across from Mrs Ohleen's former office. VISITATION HERE SCHOLARSHIPS Wed, April 7 Mary Johnson Music Award $500 to be given to one or more students of the Roslyn High School graduating class. All seniors who plan to further their education are encouraged to apply. Criteria includes, but not limited to, past musical involvement in school, church, community. March 31: Janis Skott Scholarship Qualification/Eligibility: US Citizen or permanent resident of US; GPA 2.5/equivalent or higher (out of a 4.0 scale); High School Senior who will matriculate full-time at a US accredited four-year college or university within the fifty states or District of Columbia starting at the beginning of the fall semester or quarter of 2010; have demonstrated leadership abilities through participating in community services or other extra curricular activities (application information emailed separately to Class of 2010) April 9: SD Retailers Association Scholarship Scholarships will be awarded to students who intend to enroll in a retail or business related course of study at a college/university/tech institute. Number and $ amounts vary.
